You’ve lost the weight. Now it’s time to help your body catch up! You may be an ideal candidate for panniculectomy, a trusted surgery designed to smooth your contours and refine your figure by removing excess, hanging fat and skin — known as pannus — from the abdomen.
Panniculectomy candidates may have fat extending as far as the hips, genitals and around their back, causing a number of health concerns, including back problems, rashes and difficulty walking, standing or sitting.
Panniculectomy can also help restore a normal appearance to the abdomen after a hysterectomy, injury or a hernia surgery. Often combined with a tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, panniculectomy is a popular surgery that can dramatically improve your contours.

Panniculectomy only reduces excess skin and fat, which is why it is often combined with an abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, to tighten abdominal muscles. We will help you determine your ideal surgical plan during your consultation.
You need to remain at a stable weight for at least a year to be an ideal candidate for panniculectomy.
Depending on the extent of your procedure, panniculectomy surgery can take several hours.
Panniculectomy is often performed under general anesthesia.
Your downtime will depend on the extent of your surgery. You may need to spend a day or two recovering in a hospital. Immediately following your surgery, you will need to wear a compression garment to support your abdomen as it heals. We may also insert tubes to help drain any fluids that accumulate. You will be instructed to take sponge baths and avoid exercise and lifting for several weeks. With any surgery, soreness, bruising and swelling is normal and will gradually dissipate in the weeks and months following.
